St Johns Medical Centre awarded Carers Quality Award

Caring for the Carers means GP Practice is Awarded Quality Mark.

St Johns Medical Centre in Grantham has been formally recognised for its support for unpaid carers.

During a presentation on Tuesday (28th February), the Practice received the Lincolnshire Carers Quality Award from the Lincolnshire based organisation, Every-One.

Staff have been working with Every-One for the last ten months to gain the accreditation, recognising the surgery’s commitment to identifying and supporting unpaid carers

The work has been led by Angela Hart, the surgery’s Care Co-ordinator assisted by Claire Hollingworth and Rebekah Wilson who are the Carers Champions for the practice.

Claire said: “Undertaking this award has made an outstanding difference to the way we are able to support our unpaid carers. Patients have indicated to us that they now know who to go to, have someone that they can speak to and are given the information that they need and that is helpful to them’’

Angela added that at the start of the award work the surgery did not hold a Carers register and this has now been established and over 230 carers are registered.

Julie Goy, Quality Development Lead for Every-One, presented the award to the surgery team.

She said: “It has been a pleasure working with St John’s Medical Centre throughout the last few months, supporting them to achieve the Quality Award.

“The surgery works hard to provide support for unpaid carers and they have been motivated and proactive in ensuring they have things in place to do so.
