SUMMARY:HERON - Falls Prevention Research - Welcome Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Invitation to Join the HERON Involvement Group \nHelping Shape Research to Prevent Falls at Home \nWe are looking for people with personal or professional experience of home care services to join a new involvement group for an important research project called HERON.  \nHERON stands for Home-based Falls prEvention in Rural and cOastal commuNities.  \nThe study is led by Dr Kate Robinson from the Centre for Rehabilitation and Ageing Research in the University of Nottingham\, working with partners including Every-One. Together\, we want to make sure that the voices of people with real-life experience help guide the research from start to finish. \nAbout the Project  \nFalls are one of the biggest causes of injury and loss of independence for older people. Many older people who receive support at home are at risk of falling\, but most falls prevention research has focused on people living in care homes.   \nThe HERON project will look at how a successful falls prevention programme called Action Falls can be adapted for people who receive care and support in their own homes\, particularly in rural and coastal communities.   \nThe research team wants to understand:  \n\nWhat helps people stay safe and independent at home. \nWhat increases the risk of falls. \nHow home care services can support people to reduce those risks. \nHow the Action Falls programme should be changed to work well in home care settings. \n\nWhy Your Involvement Matters  \nWe believe that people with lived experience are experts in their own lives. Research works best when the people affected by it help shape it. Your experiences\, ideas and opinions can help us make sure the project focuses on what really matters to people. By joining the involvement group\, you can help improve services and support for older people who receive care at home\, both now and in the future.  \nWho Can Join?  \nWe would like to hear from:  \n\nOlder people who receive care or support at home. \nFamily members\, friends or unpaid carers. \nPeople who have experience of falls or concerns about falling. \nHome care workers and other people who provide care and support. \nPeople living in rural or coastal communities. \n\nYou do not need any previous experience of research or involvement. We will explain everything clearly and support you throughout.  \nWhat Will the Group Do?  \nThe group will help guide the research as it develops. Members may be asked to:  \n\nShare their experiences and ideas. \nReview project information and materials. \nHelp researchers understand what the findings mean in real life. \nSuggest improvements to the programme. \nTake part in discussions and workshops. \nHelp create easy-to-understand information and resources for the public.  \n\nThere will also be opportunities\, if you are interested\, to receive training and support to help with activities such as interviewing people involved in the project.   \nWhat Commitment Is Involved?  \nThe involvement group is expected to meet approximately every three months. Meetings will include a mix of face-to-face and online options.  We understand that everyone has different needs and circumstances. We will work with members to make involvement as accessible as possible. You can choose the ways you would like to be involved and the level of involvement that feels right for you.  \nSupport and Accessibility  \nWe want everyone to be able to take part. We can discuss any support or reasonable adjustments you may need\, such as:  \n\nAccessible information. \nTelephone access for online meetings. \nSupport with technology. \nInterpretation or translation. \nTravel support. \nOther adjustments that would help you participate.  \n\nPayment and Expenses  \nWe recognise the value of your time and expertise. People with lived experience will be offered payment for their involvement and reimbursement of agreed expenses\, in line with national guidance. This may include attending meetings\, reviewing documents or taking part in workshops.   \nPayment details can be found here: HERON – Involvement Group – Payments Guidance – updated 9.9.26 (1) \nWe can talk through the options with you before you decide whether to join.  \nWhat Difference Will This Make?  \nYour involvement will help shape:  \n\nHow the Action Falls programme is adapted for people receiving care at home. \nHow the research is carried out. \nHow findings are interpreted. \nThe resources\, tools and information produced by the project. \nFuture approaches to reducing falls and helping older people remain independent in their own homes.  \n\nWe are committed to showing members how their ideas have influenced the project and will regularly share feedback on what has changed as a result of the group’s input.   \n\nWelcome Meeting  \nDate: Friday 16th October 2026\nTime: 11am – 12pm\nLocation: Online (via MS Teams)   \nFor more information visit:  \n\nwww.every-one.org.uk/what-we-do/Heron \nhttps://actionfalls.org/domicillary-care/ \n\nInterested? If you would like to find out more or are interested in joining the HERON Involvement Group\, please contact:  \nVicky Thomson – Every-One\nTel: 01522 811 582\nEmail: vicky.thomson@every-one.org.uk\nwww.every-one.org.uk  \n\nWe would love to hear from you. Your experience could help improve support for older people and reduce falls in communities across Lincolnshire\, Nottinghamshire and beyond. \n\nDownload invitation here – HERON – Invitation to be involved – FINAL \nDownload poster here – HERON Involvement Group – Summary Invitation – FINAL

SUMMARY:Exploring death literacy\, Death Cafés\, end of life doulas and Compassionate Communities in Lincolnshire
DESCRIPTION:A second open session with Joss Winn (University of Lincoln) and facilitated by Vicky Thomson (Every-One) to explore death literacy\, Death Cafés\, End of Life Doulas and a Compassionate Communities approach in Lincolnshire. This follows our first session held on 14th September 2026\, where we asked ‘are you in?” \nThis conversation was inspired by the concept of Compassionate Communities (sometimes referred to as Compassionate Cities)\, which begins with a simple but powerful observation: most of the care\, support and companionship people receive towards the end of life comes not from professionals\, but from family\, friends\, neighbours\, colleagues and communities. On that basis\, supporting people through death\, dying\, loss and grief is something that belongs to all of us. \nAt the heart of this approach is the idea of death literacy – helping people to develop the knowledge\, skills and confidence to talk about\, plan for and support one another through death and dying. It aligns closely with the national ambition that communities should be prepared\, willing and able to support people through times of crisis\, loss and bereavement. \nAs part of a wider piece of exploratory work\, we are asking a simple question: What could this mean for Lincolnshire? Could we create more opportunities for open conversations about death and dying? Is there interest in developing Death Cafés or similar community-led initiatives? What is already happening locally\, and what could we learn from other compassionate community projects across the UK? \nThe session is intended to bring together anyone who is interested in these questions. There’s no fixed agenda and no expectation of commitment. \nWe simply want to create a space for discussion\, hear different perspectives\, and explore whether there is appetite for taking ideas forward together.
